Basement Conversion & Double Height Rear Extension
Forest Hill, London
This Victorian house in a conservation area had a lower ground floor with restricted head height only useful for storage, and a tired polycarbonate conservatory. The lower ground was excavated to create more head height, the stair from upper to lower ground level was relocated to create more internal space and the conservatory was replaced with a new glazed and zinc clad two storey rear extension with a double height space internally. This created a new open plan kitchen/ dining/ living space at ground level, with an additional utility space and shower room. By using the glazed extension as a passive solar space and internally insulating the existing brick perimeter walls and floors the sustainability of the house is significantly improved.
