Elm Corner
CRA was employed to discharge the planning conditions and design the building in detail for costing on this new build house, designed by Matthew Heath Architect.
Discharging the conditions involved a highly detailed level of design and coordination on this 0.8 acre heavily wooded site as it had to be proved that the building would reach Code Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. Although the original intention was already to use ground source heat pumps and whole house ventilation, the orientation of the building combined with the large glazed facades, added to the high environmental status of the existing site, made this a complex project.
Research conducted on the project inlcuded:
sustainable insulation and rendering systems
solid timber structures
sustainable technologies for energy generation or high efficiency use of energy
(in collaboration with specialist advisors)
sustainable drainage techniques (in collaboration with specialist advisors)
The planning conditions were discharged and the project costed in 2010.
